OH LORD, have we got some pipin’ hot quarantine cutlets for you to BUMP in your parent’s basements this weekend let me tell ya.
The amount of heat that’s dropped in the past few weeks is just salt in the wound with this whole pandemic thing. You’re telling me Dua Lipa just dropped a 80’s pop/funk inspired album with 11 certified bopperinos crammed inside of it and I can’t have a couple brews with the boys whilst absorbing all her good vibes??? KEEP CROSSING LINES LIKE THESE CORONA AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
SEE. WHAT. HAPPENS.
I mean, just in the past few weeks we’ve got a new Weeknd album, we got a new Childish Gambino album, we got Uzi, we got Don Toliver, we got Jay Electronica’s debut album after 10 years and NOW Rihanna decides to drop her first vocals on a song since 2017??? Truly the only thing keeping me sane during these trying times, yet, ’tis a double edged sword in that I cannot enjoy them in the perfect setting.
So, until we can play these songs out of our speakers with our friends less than 6 feet away from us in fresh air, let’s learn all the words so we can belt ’em out once we get let loose. Here are my Spicy Cuts of the week.
Levitating -Dua Lipa
DUUUUUUAAAA. TAKE YOUR FOOT OF THE BRAKES FOR JUST A MINUTE SHEESH! CMON! YOU CAN’T HIT US WITH ALL THESE BANGERS IN A SINGLE ALBUM DEAR LORD!
Anyone else trying to come for the crown in Pop Music. BACK OFF. Dua just grabbed the aux cord and she’s pumping nothing but GROOVE into the speakers until the next MILLENNIUM. IT’S HER TIME. This album doesn’t have a bad song on it and is the beginning of Dua’s reign. She will be the next Taylor Swift/Ariana Grande level pop-star, MARK MY WORDS.
35.31 -Childish Gambino
I mean, imagine jamming to this in your backyard on a summer’s day. Grilling dogs in a bathing suit. Haven’t showered yet since coming home from the beach. You’re a couple corona’s deep (of the cerveza variety). Life is good. We’ll get there. Listen to this song and remember it ain’t always gonna be like this.
BMO -Ari Lennox (feat. Doja Cat) [Remix]
Oh hell ya. Ari Lennox was heat on Revenge of the Dreamers III and Doja is HOT right now. They work so perfectly on this song behind like a late 90’s-type beat. Very dope.
Believe It –Rihanna PARTYNEXTDOOR (feat. Rihanna)
Not a huge PARTYNEXTDOOR guy to be honest. Feel like he’s just kinda boring. But you get an extremely rare RiRi feature and you’ve got my attention. Haven’t listened to the whole album yet but this little guitar riff beat and their vocals sound great. Hopefully this means Rihanna is coming out of her years long musical slumber to grace us with some tunes soon.
Like It Is -Kygo, Zara Larsson & Tyga
I mean, this is just a cut and dry Kygo song. Down to the Zara Larsson feature who I’m convinced is just in a cage at the one EDM studio every DJ uses and only gets brought out to drop vocals. But hey, isn’t that what we need right now? Some bubbly head bobbin’ vibes? Throw a decent Tyga verse on there and I’m in folks!
Itkanbe[Sonice] -Knxwledge (feat. Anderson .Paak)
This is a quick lofi track, but a good one. Any time producer Knxwledge and .Paak get together to form Nx Worries, you have to listen. Makes me want to go back and slam their album Yes Lawd! Real quick. Anybody looking for some chill background music give his new album 1988 a listen.
Hallucinate -Dua Lipa
“Bbbb but Mr. ChickenParm…you can’t have 2 spicy cuts from the same artist that’s not fair!”
LIFE’S NOT FAIR KID GET USED TO IT. YOU DROP HEAT, YOU GET ON THE LIST. THEMS THE RULES.
What did I miss? Let me know! And if you haven’t checked out Volume 1 yet, do so right here.
